Formulas, constants, and sources used for this calculator.
What this page is
This methodology page explains the formulas, constants, and assumptions used in this calculator.
We publish these details so you can verify how numbers are produced.
Calculator constants (values used)
| Constant | Value used | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Self-only limit | $4,400 | 2026 estimate |
| Family limit | $8,750 | 2026 estimate |
| Catch-up (55+) | $1,000 | Fixed by IRS |
How the calculation works
We select the annual limit based on your coverage type.
If you are age 55+, we add the catch-up amount.
If you were eligible for fewer than 12 months, we prorate the max contribution.
Rounding and formatting
We round to the nearest cent for dollar amounts.
